Five Star Fish & Chips the Taste of Miami

This restaurant needs to reopen asap i miss the food i miss the fish and shrimp combo with extra tartar sauce

Pretty good! I checked the reviews and still decided to give it a chance. Since it was a Thursday evening around 5:30 or so I figured it wouldn't be busy and I guess I was right.

I used Uber Eats and the food was to my house within a half hour.

I ordered the lemon pepper wings that kind of had a tanginess to them and the garlic Parmesan wings. Both were good. I liked the well doneness of the wings. The lemon pepper were great. The garlic parm were good too. They were saucy.

The potato salad and the collards greens were sides. The potato salad was good. The collard greens weren't bad. I felt like they were missing something.

The lemonade was good and sweet! $2 for a huge drink to wash it all down.

I will definitely try another order.

I recently discovered this place through UberEats. I've ordered the Lemon Pepper Wings, the Six piece crispy shrimp, and the fish and shrimp combo w/ Mac and cheese. The lemon pepper wings are my fav. So far I have no complaints.

The fish and shrimp combo comes with fries.... beware as the fries are always soggy and never crispy. You can also choose a second side with this meal. I ordered the Mac and cheese which was bland (I found myself adding black pepper just to give it a little flavor). I'm happy to say that they do seem to devein the shrimp which most places do not do. Oh and before I forget.... the tartar sauce.... definitely tasty and filled with flavor.

I plan to eventually go in person. So I can know where I'm spending my money.

I work in the area and Ive been trying to get to five star a few times so i was happy to find out they were open one sunday evening when i got off.

It was a cold & rainy so by time I reached home it wasnt as hot as I would have liked. However it was fine. I may give it another try.

The reason for 3 stars is for the food & my overall experience.

After reviewing the menu above the counter I made me selection. An order of wings, fries & sm side. The young lady explained I could only get 2 sides if it was a dinner so I reread it as Im confused because I dont see that disclaimer. It surely said what I ordered so for clarification I asked is my order not the one printed here and she said oh your right & let me place the order.

After patiently waiting for the food I go to pay & the gentleman taking the payment is having a conversation about the prices and honoring or not honoring the listed prices but Im thinking they are speaking about another customer.

Then I realized that it was me they were talking about. AKWARD MUCH. The young lady pointed out that is what is on the wall & the customer pointed it therefore she honored it. He did not care & feels she should have told me the promotion was no longer available for whatever reason he gave.

My issue is that is a business discussion that should have not taken place in front of a customer; especially the part about not caring about what a paying customer to your establishment has to say. And it wasnt as if I came in with a coupon or some expired offer. It was listed IN the restaurant. She was explaining to him that could be looked at as false advertising & the sign should be covered which I agree.

Came in really hungry and it's was quiet. I asked some questions about the different combos and decided on tilapia and shrimp with fries. Right before he drops the fish in he says we only have whiting (I am not a fan). So shrimp and fried it was. You get a side with it so I asked what was available.... mac & cheese, candied yams, left over green beans from another order, potato salad, over cooked grey broccoli and macaroni salad. All other veggies were gone. So I took the mac and cheese (don't do it, its just that... macaroni and cheese baked stiff, no milk, butter or eggs in it, served in a small Styrofoam cup).
Food came up, my Total included hefty tax bringing a 9.50 order to almost $12. The fries were real cut potatoes and amazing, but the shrimp were over seasoned and over cooked. And there were only 6 of them. Given they were large, I ate them without much of a gripe. Maybe if I'm in the area and have a taste for seafood I'll come by. I tipped and left. Also, the free drink with yelp check in is not recognized here.

It's decent soul food when they make the wings fresh it's great the Mac and cheese is good and so are the yams. I can't vouch for anything else I tried seafood from them once and was not impressed. But the wings are good like I said when they fry them fresh for you instead of using the ones that were sitting for hours.

The Lemon Pepper wings taste as described.
The seafood is also delicious.

Must try is the banana pudding. Not everyone can nail banana pudding. This place does a great job.

I have ordered from here in the past but had to write a review today. I usually get the fried fish, shrimp and french fries with a side order of Mac & Cheese. No complaints with that order.
But today I ordered the fried fish & grits. Just received my order via uber eats but unfortunately the grits were so salty I had to throw it away. I thought maybe it was just on the top so I mixed it up a bit. But still to salty I couldn't eat it. I tried calling the restaurant to see if I could speak to the manager but called a few times and no answer. Good thing I ordered a side of Mac & cheese I was able to eat that with the fish. Will definitely be my last time ordering annoyed and a waste of money.

Instead of eating all that other fast food junk on Pennsylvania ave, I try to eat from here or the Spanish spot next door. While some restaurants serve pre made frozen food, you can tell that the food is actually made there and not the frozen seafood aisle from key food. The macaroni and cheese is mad good and cheesy.The fish is good here too but my preference is the shrimp and of course the fries. Try anything from here trust me it's good.

Food was tasty and seasoned well. Collard greens weren't my best, they need to chop them better, and add a little more seasoning to it. Beverages are very tasty with the meal. Tarter sauce isn't what I expected, I'm assuming it's their house special made sauce, but it's too much of a mayonnaise taste. It is better than Sea n Sea on Van Siclen, so I will be eating there often. Most importantly waits staff I feel she is awesome, great mannerism.
